Maya and the Seven Limbs is a children’s character development book for 6-10 year olds and is comprised of 7 stories, each of which was written by a Muslim family. The following is an excerpt from the Introduction to the book:
Maya is an 8-year-old Muslim girl. She is adventurous, curious, eager to learn and please, and loves her family, friends, and God. She lives with her mom, dad, grandmother, older brother Abdallah and older sister Selma. She does not like being the baby of the family!
Maya has a best friend – a cat named Cat. Cat is very wise and is always by Maya’s side. Maya’s favorite thing to do with Cat is cuddle.
Like all children, Maya is growing and learning. Some of the most important lessons she is learning is about her own spirituality. Cat tells Maya that spirituality is all about getting closer to God.
"The stories in this book are tales about how Maya gets closer to God through lessons learned with her seven limbs – her eyes, ears, tongue, hands, feet, stomach, and private parts."
The stories in this book are tales about how Maya gets closer to God through lessons learned with her seven limbs – her eyes, ears, tongue, hands, feet, stomach, and private parts. As Cat explains, these seven limbs are connected to our spiritual heart – the place inside each of us that God shines through. The state of our spiritual heart – who we really are – is directly impacted by the things we do with our limbs. If we do bad things with them, our heart can get covered with dust, making it dark and dull. On the other hand, doing good things with our limbs polishes away these dusty covers. Having a clean heart is what true success in life is all about.
